El Buitre leonado (Gyps fulvus) es una ave planeadora, no se puede decir que sea realmente voladora ya que apenas mueve sus alas en vuelo. Desde el amanecer, espera las horas de mejor temperatura para elevarse, ganando altura rápidamente con movimientos mínimos de la cola, apoyándose en las corrientes térmicas y otros fenómenos aerológicos.
The Griffon Vulture (Gyps fulvus) is a pure soaring birds. It barely moves its wings at all while on the air, so you can't really say it is a flying bird. Starting at dawn, its waits for the hours with the better temperatures to go up in the air using small movements of its tail, and taking advantage of thermal currents and other atmospheric phenomenon.
Aprovecha esas condciones para planear y mantenerse en el aire muchs horas sin apenas consumir energía. Es capaz de volar muy alto pasando desapercibido desde el suelo. Cuando apoyados en su fenomenal vista o ayudados por la presencia de otras aves más pequeñas, localizan un animal muerto, bajan rápidamente planeando para alimentarse.
They take advantage of these conditions to glide and stay in the air for hours, barely consuming energy. They can reach very high altitudes which makes them unnoticeable from the ground. When they spot a carcass with their extraordinary sight or guided by smaller birds in the area, they quickly descend to feed themselves.

Su hábitat preferido son las zonas montañosas y los acantilados donde vive en colonias, formando espacios conocidos como buitreras, algunas de las cuales pueden llegar a tener muchos años de antigüedad.
Their favorite habitats are mountainous areas and crags, where they live in colonies that can get to be many years old.
