Los perritos de las praderas (Cynomys) son unos pequeños mamíferos, parientes de las marmotas, que se pueden ver en las praderas norteamericanas, tanto en EE.UU., como Méjico y algunas zonas de Canadá.
Prairie dogs (Cynomys) are small mammals, relatives of marmots, that can be seen across the prairies of North America, in the USA, Mexico and parts of Canada.
Son regordetes, con patas muy cortas y grandes excavadores, ya que habitan en galerias que excavan en el suelo. Se agrupan en colonias y a su vez distintas colonias forman "ciudades", donde pueden vivir miles de animales con una cierta organización social.
They are chubby, have short legs and are great diggers, since they live in underground galleries. They group together forming colonies and multiple colonies create "cities", where thousands of these animals can live under a certain social organization.
Con la tierra extraida al hacer los túneles donde habitan, crean pequeños montículos en la pradera, desde donde vigilan si algún peligro les acecha. Suelen lanzar una especie de ladridos (tienen varios tipos distintos) para avisar a los demás de la situación.
Using the soil extracted to build the underground galleries, they create small mounds on the prairie, from where they watch for possible hazards. They make their typical barks (there are a few different ones) to warn the other prairie dogs of the situation.
